Texan CAROLYN MILFORD GILBERT, Founder of the International Association of Obituarists is a person of widely diverse interests. She has pursued her passions from classroom instruction to teaching mediation in law school, to musical performances in community productions. She has produced and hosted a radio series on current affairs and lifestyle issues. She has led hundreds of developmental workshops for groups ranging from women in construction to gang intervention units of police departments.

Her interest in people, an underlying curiosity, ten years of intensive study and international conferences has led her to one of the most intriguing passions of her career – the art of obituary – viewing the obituary as the story of life rather then death. Every person has a story to be told in the quaint format of the obituary page. But that obituary is only the tip of the iceberg. It is the quest for the rest of the story---the discovery of the story behind the story—that drives Gilbert these days. That curiosity is always looking for some new idea, some new realization, some new challenge to be met with fun and ingenuity.
