Mr. Bacon is a retired businessman, raconteur and Zoomer. As a Royal Air Force meteorologist, Sydney came to Canada from England in 1940 to work at a training school for navigators near Goderich, Ont. He founded Bacon Basketware in 1947, selling it at age 86. At 63, he fell in love with Fredelle Bruser Maynard, author of Raisins and Almonds (they married when he was 79, just months before her death from brain cancer). Sydney currently records CDs of his life's stories for family and friends. He is planning his 100th birthday celebration which will take place in 2010 in the ballroom at the Sutton Place Hotel. Classical pianist Anton Kuerti will perform.
